Fighting Censorship webinar ‘Reclaiming the Narrative: Policy Conversations that Center Community’ workshop to be held March 28

United for Libraries is the leading voice for library Trustees, Friends, and Foundation members across the country. During the final installment in the Fighting Censorship webinar series, a panel of experts will examine how effective local policy is connected to constructive state and federal policy. Stakeholders will explore how they, as brand ambassadors, can successfully engage with community members and decision makers to build support for policies that uphold community aspirations and strengthen libraries. Participants will engage with facilitators and each other, and will develop a personal action plan for 2024.

Panelists

Lauren Trujillo has worked with several nonprofits and organizations in Santa Barbara, including the Isla Vista Memorial Project, the Santa Barbara Mission Archive-Library, and others. She currently sits on the board for the Santa Barbara Women’s Literary Festival and volunteers with the nonprofit Self Enquiry Life Fellowship in Montecito. Her background in nonprofit fundraising is diverse and aligns with the needs of the Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation.

Charity Tyler was named Executive Director for the Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation in 2015. She has led transition from capital to annual giving focus while creating policies and improving governance structures to support fundraising on behalf of the Cedar Rapids Public Library and to support Foundation-funded programs including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. She currently serves as United for Libraries’ fiscal officer.

Skip Dye is Senior Vice President, Library Sales and Digital Strategy and Senior Vice President, Sales Operations, at Penguin Random House. Skip has been at PRH for over 25 years, and is a strong advocate for library funding and Intellectual Freedom. He has served as President of United for Libraries (2018-19), a member of ALA Nominating Committee (2020), and is currently serving as Chair of United’s Intellectual Freedom and Public Policy & Advocacy Committee. Skip is a board member of the Friends of Lewes (Delaware) Public Library.
