United for Libraries programs at AC24

United will premiere a full roster of programs and events for library trustees, Friends, Foundations, staff & everyone else at ALA Annual 2024 in San Diego

The 2024 ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition runs June 27-July 2 in San Diego. Library advocates, trustees, Friends and Foundations attending the conference should take special interest in United for Libraries programs, which are designed to help further develop the libraries, boards, and careers of those who attend. United will also host two discussion groups and several author events.

For Friends of the Library

United will present several programs for Friends groups, like Lead Your Friends Organization Through Transformation, where Friends can learn learn ways to embrace change and let go of legacy processes that no longer serve them. Another program of interest is What about your friends? Strengthening relationships with your Friend of the Library groups, a workshop that discusses the importance of building strong relationships with Friend of the Library groups to support and enhance library resources and services.

For library Trustees

What does an A+ board look like? Library board members and trustees should join us to discuss the Top 10 Things Every Board Member Should Know, but Often Don’t to learn how to develop an A+ board, how to get board members to be more open to the idea of hosting a board training, and more. Then, join our Library Boards & Trustees Discussion Group to participate in idea-sharing, networking, and roundtable discussions with colleagues from across the country.

For library Foundations

Library foundation members can learn plenty from attending United programs this year, like how to Supercharge Your Fundraising with… Advocacy! Panelists from a variety of library types will share their perspectives on how to build a compelling case for government, campus, and community support. For even more on fundraising, join us at Building a Strong Foundation for Future Success, which will provide an empowering toolkit of the latest proven “best practice” strategies and techniques designed to unlock new revenue streams.

For everyone

Each year, United hosts several popular ticketed and free author events at ALA Annual. Join us at Love Stories: An Author Panel to meet some of the year’s bestselling romance authors, or First Novels: An Author Panel to preview the season’s most anticipated debut novels. Ticketed events like The Laugh’s On Us sponsored by Data Axle Reference Solutions and the Gala Author Tea tend to sell out every year, so get your tickets while you can! Each author event presents an opportunity for author Q&A along with signed copies of featured novels.

Lastly but certainly not least, everyone should attend The Battle for the First Amendment: Why You Can’t Afford to Remain Neutral, to learn how the First Amendment protects everyone’s right to read, think and write. No one can remain passive in the face of attacks on the freedom of speech; not publishers, authors, librarians, or library patrons.
